GN Pan Sizes: Dimensions, Depths and Buying Checklist
GN sizing helps kitchen teams describe pan footprints consistently. To choose the right pan, you also need depth, material, intended use and the exact equipment or carrier it must fit.
Common GN footprints
The table describes nominal footprint dimensions. It is a sizing reference, not a list of every variant currently supplied by Kenford.
| GN format | Nominal dimensions | Example selection question |
|---|---|---|
| 1/1 | 530 × 325 mm | What depth and loading arrangement does the equipment accept? |
| 1/2 | 325 × 265 mm | Do the lid and rim clear the available space? |
| 1/3 | 325 × 176 mm | How many separate ingredients need access? |
| 1/4 | 265 × 162 mm | Is the required depth available in the selected series? |
| 1/6 | 176 × 162 mm | Will the chosen lid work with the pan material? |
| 1/9 | 176 × 108 mm | Is this format suitable for the intended station? |
Footprint does not tell you capacity
A shallow and deep pan can have the same GN footprint while carrying different volumes. Choose depth around the task, the expected refill interval and your equipment clearance. Ask for the published capacity of the exact model; do not infer usable volume from the footprint alone.
Check material and operating conditions
Kenford lists different product series. Specify whether a pan is intended for preparation, storage, presentation or another approved application. Temperature limits, cleaning instructions and permitted equipment use depend on the particular material and product. A GN label does not mean every pan is suitable for heating, freezing or microwaving.
Match the pan, lid and equipment
- Record the required GN format and depth.
- Identify the selected material and product code.
- Check the correct lid series and whether handles or seals affect clearance.
- Confirm the usable dimensions of the refrigerator, counter or transport carrier.
- Ask Kenford to confirm the final combination before purchase.
Write a complete GN-pan enquiry
For each item, include format, depth, material preference, lid requirement and quantity. Add the equipment model or measured clearance where compatibility matters. This makes it easier to compare quotations for the same specification.
